Evidence, financing pathways and lessons from Invest4Nature
Since Invest4Nature is coming to an end, the project has brought together its key findings, tools and practical experiences in a new booklet. It provides a comprehensive overview of the knowledge generated throughout the project and the lessons learned from its research and Living Labs.
Nature-based Solutions (NbS) can deliver environmental, social and economic benefits. Yet despite growing recognition of their value, they are still not widely integrated into investment strategies and policy decisions. One of the main challenges is the gap between awareness and action: recognising the benefits of NbS does not always lead to concrete investment, supportive policies or implementation on the ground.
Invest4Nature has worked to address this gap by strengthening the evidence base on the economic and financial performance of NbS and engaging stakeholders from the public and private sectors. In Living Labs across Europe, NbS cases were evaluated, approaches tested and local experiences gathered.
The booklet summarises the project’s insights into how NbS operate within market ecosystems, the current state and limitations of financing, the role of public actors and the potential to mobilise private capital. It translates these findings into practical considerations for policymakers, cities and municipalities, investors and practitioners.
As Europe works towards greater climate resilience, the question is no longer whether NbS are relevant, but how they can be implemented more widely and at scale. By capturing the knowledge generated throughout Invest4Nature, the booklet provides a lasting resource to support informed decisions and the wider uptake of NbS beyond the project’s lifetime.
